Having demonstrated that hydroponics was feasible and produced good quality salad produce, Annog established Broga in 2007 to sell it to local shops and restaurants. We developed the brand, established procedures for collection and distribution, and developed the customer base on island.
In 2009 the ownership of Broga was transferred to one of the growers that had been involved in the project since beginning. Sue Elfyn has since developed the business and is now supplying a wider range of products to more customers, including many off the island.
The main challenges facing Broga was creating a viable enterprise despite a relatively low unit price and the transport costs of delivering across a rural area. The business model was adapted several times to meet with the demands of the market and ensure Broga remain viable.
