Countryside Access

The Isle of Anglesey Coastal Path Project was funded through the Objective 1 programme and ran over the period 2002 to 2008. Administered by Menter Môn the project was managed by a partnership of organisations including Menter Môn, Isle of Anglesey County Council, Countryside council for Wales, National Trust, Forestry Commission and Visit Wales.

Over the funding period Anglesey’s 125-mile (200km) coastal path was completely refurbished alongside major feeder routes connecting to the path. Oak furniture was used to compliment the natural beauty of the coastline. Some major new sections of the coastal path were created and safeguarded through agreements with coastal landholders. Other facilities such as seating, interpretation, picnic areas, parking, and bike storage were also improved as part of the scheme. An official guidebook was produced in conjunction with a well known author.

The Isle of Anglesey Coastal Path was officially opened in 2006 by Rhodri Morgan AM, First Minister for Wales.
