ABOUT US
Menter Iaith Môn was established in 1997, one of the first Mentrau Iaith to be established in north Wales. It is mainly funded by the Welsh Language Board but also draws in funding from other sources to realise its aims and objectives.

Menter Iaith Môn exists to promote and facilitate the Welsh language on Ynys Môn. The Welsh language is vibrant and live, and is used in all aspects of everyday life on Ynys Môn – over 60% of its population speaks Welsh, making it one of the strongholds of the language in Wales.

The Menter Iaith therefore works with individuals, businesses and voluntary organisations providing guidance and assistance in increasing their use of the Welsh language.

Work is also carried out in the community, working with community groups, helping Welsh learners to practice their skills. Our work with children and young people is also core to our activities – they are after all the future of Ynys Môn, and our heritage and culture is an important part of their identity.

The language is something we can all be proud of – but we can’t do it all ourselves. If you would like to volunteer with the work of the Menter Iaith in your local community, would like to learn Welsh or have ideas that you think we may be able to help you to promote bilingualism in your community – let us know!
