Producers often face common challenges to growing their business and can benefit from working together. Menter Môn can arrange training courses which look to address topics of general interest as well facilitating producers to work in groups. As well as helping individual business this also strengthens Ynys Môn’s identity as the “Food Island”.
This group was initially established to enable hydroponic growers to learn from each other and share best practice. It also leads to the creation of Broga and the collaboration between producers to supply fresh produce to Anglesey shops and restaurants.
The group has now opened its membership to more traditional growers. As well as strengthening links between the growers, the group has also been on field trips and have been addressed be speakers on specialist subjects.
Social Networking provides producers with an opportunity to market their produce and develop a relationship with their customers. Many are niche products produced by individuals and this medium enables them to strengthen their brand by establishing a dialogue with consumers which is impossible through traditional marketing means. A one course on using Twitter and Face book was held for producers followed, if required, by a one to one session with an advisor.
