The project will be working with public procurement in the food sector, working to ensure that food is grown and used locally and that the supply chains are as short as possible.

Since the UK’s departure from the European Union, the Welsh Government has been considering reforming the current procurement regulations, to increase the benefit of public sector procurement to the Welsh economy and society.

With these talks happening at a higher level, the Larder Cymru project is very current and relevant to ensure that the capacity would be available on the ground to act upon and deliver these new regulations. This procurement reform must be based on long term ambitions.

Dafydd Gruffydd, Menter Môn’s Managing Director said: “There is no doubt that we are in the middle of a period of change, but from change comes opportunities and hopefully opportunities to deliver on the Larder Cymru objectives.”

One of the main priorities when it comes to food and drink public procurement is its social value.
