Work is underway to improve the path around Llyn Cefni.\u00a0 This small project could be the first of many as efforts are made to connect the island\u2019s communities with a multi use green corridor.<\/p>\n
In 2020 communities were invited to submit ambitious ideas to the Welsh Government\u2019s Green Recovery Task Force.\u00a0 These ideas were expected to support a rapid green recovery from the pandemic and place the climate and nature emergencies at their heart.<\/p>\n
Among the successful projects was Glasffordd M\u00f4n.\u00a0 Funding was secured by Menter M\u00f4n and Ynys M\u00f4n County Council to develop the vision, prepare a range of interventions and complete a pilot project. It has also received ongoing support from Natural Resources Wales and Welsh Water.<\/p>\n
Wyn Morgan, Chair of Glasffordd M\u00f4n\u2019s Steering Group explained \u201cWe have been exploring the concept for many years as it would develop on the work we have done with the coastal path and L\u00f4n Las Cefni.\u00a0 The difference with Glasffordd M\u00f4n is the emphasis on biodiversity, thereby providing an asset for nature as well as members of public.\u201d<\/p>\n
The project also has a champion in David Lea-Wilson MBE, who is a member of the Task Force.\u00a0 The co-owner of Halen M\u00f4n Seasalt Company believes this project is much needed on the island saying \u201cThe pandemic has highlighted the value of spending time outside and reconnecting with nature.\u00a0 This project would also contribute to tackling climate change, reverse the decline in biodiversity and connect people and communities.\u2019<\/p>\n
He continued \u201cThe partnership that has developed between the various agencies over the last year demosntrates strong support for this project and I am confident we can access further funding to make Glasffordd M\u00f4n a reailty in the next three years.\u201d<\/p>\n
The final report on Glasffordd M\u00f4n is expected to be complete by the end of March and will be made publicly available to allow members of the public to make comment.\u00a0 The work in around Llyn Cefni will be completed in February and March and will improve this valuable amenity for members of the public.<\/p>\n
