We have established a new team to maximise local opportunities arising from large developments coming to the north Wales region.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The new Local Benefits Team, led by Fiona Parry, will build on the work done as part of\u00a0\u00a0Morlais, our tidal Stream Energy project. A key priority, as well as producing low carbon energy, is to ensure that local people have the skills needed in the energy sector, as well as ensuring that local businesses benefit form supply chain opportunities.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Over the last five years, we have worked closely with schools, Grwp Llandrillo Menai and Bangor University to enthuse the next generation and highlight the opportunities. \u00a0This work was recognised last year with the Best Newcomer Award from Careers Wales<\/span><\/p>\n

We have also led extensive work within the business sector across north Wales. Our view is, for the economy to benefit from the new developments, it is important that businesses are aware of the opportunities and are given the support needed to take full advantage. This work also aligns with other programmes delivered by ourselves, such as the Enterprise Hub and Business Wales.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Fiona Parry, Local Benefits Manager at Menter M\u00f4n said<\/span><\/b>:\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThese are exciting times for Ynys M\u00f4n and wider region, with developments such as the Freeport and Wylfa Newydd.\u00a0\u00a0With the new team, we hope to support others to deliver wider social value.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201dEnsuring\u00a0that Morlais\u00a0benefitted\u00a0the local area has always been a priority.\u00a0\u00a0We have learnt a great deal over the last 5 years and have\u00a0established\u00a0a good relationship with the education sector and businesses across the region.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The team are already working with other partners to deliver community benefit.\u00a0\u00a0Menter M\u00f4n were recently appointed to manage the community benefit fund associated with the EDF Porth Wen Solar project near Cemaes.\u00a0\u00a0Funding was recently distributed schools and a range of local groups in the area.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Dafydd Gruffydd, the Managing Director of Menter M\u00f4n\u00a0said:<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

“The company is uniquely positioned to ensure communities\u00a0benefit\u00a0from large projects. \u2018We have always worked closely with communities on projects that matter to people, whether it is protecting the Water Vole or supporting the Welsh language.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
