Gwnaed\u00a0\u00e2\u00a0Gwl\u00e2n \/ Made with wool, a Menter M\u00f4n project focused\u00a0on bringing Welsh Wool stakeholders together to realise the potential of wool, has celebrated\u00a0a highly successful\u00a0‘Made with wool\u2019\u00a0event at\u00a0Gwersyll\u00a0yr Urdd Glan\u2011llyn, Bala. The event, held and organised in partnership between Menter M\u00f4n and LanoTech\u00a0Ltd, brought together a large and enthusiastic audience to highlight the rich potential of Welsh wool\u00a0sector, from its cultural heritage to its role in future sustainable industries.<\/div>\n

As part of the programme,\u00a0LanoTech\u00a0founder Clodagh Weingart\u00a0showcased\u00a0the company\u2019s groundbreaking work transforming lanolin, the natural grease found in British wool, into a sustainable alternative to soy and vegetable oils in animal feed. Their innovative product has\u00a0demonstrated\u00a0higher energy content and improved stability compared to conventional feed oils, highlighting an exciting new avenue for adding value to British wool.<\/div>\n

The day featured compelling presentations and panel discussions from leading industry figures,\u00a0including\u00a0professors\u00a0from Leeds University,\u00a0covering the history of the wool sector, innovative product development, alternative uses, and the future challenges and opportunities facing farmers,\u00a0makers\u00a0and businesses. Attendees engaged in lively discussion sessions,\u00a0demonstrating\u00a0strong appetite for collaboration and for harnessing wool\u2019s value across the supply chain.<\/div>\n

Throughout the event, visitors were able to network with stallholders and organisations including the National Wool Museum,\u00a0AberInnovation, Leather UK, Bulmer & Lumb and\u00a0Cwmni\u00a0Pum\u00a0Plwy\u00a0Penllyn, who\u00a0showcased\u00a0everything from traditional craft to cutting\u2011edge products. The day also featured an exhibition celebrating Bala\u2019s historic sock\u2011knitting tradition, highlighting the deep roots of wool in the area\u2019s culture and identity.<\/div>\n

Creative and family\u2011friendly workshops allowed participants to explore wool hands\u2011on, including felting, weaving,\u00a0dyeing\u00a0and storytelling through podcast creation with\u00a0Cwmni\u00a0Pum\u00a0Plwy\u00a0Penllyn. These activities\u00a0demonstrated\u00a0wool\u2019s versatility as well as the thriving skills base emerging across communities in Wales.<\/div>\n
