AN INTRODUCTION TO USING A SCYTHE TO CUT VEGETATION<\/strong><\/p>\n

Location<\/strong>: Llanddona Commons Local Nature Reserve but meet at Llanddona Village Hall car park LL58 8TS<\/p>\n

EVENT DESCRIPTION<\/strong><\/p>\n

Come and join in with this practical conservation task day at the local nature reserve in Llanddona and learn how to use a scythe.\u00a0\u00a0 The Llanddona Commons LNR lie within the Anglesey Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) and the open expanse of the heathland provides a very attractive area of natural vegetation. However, in order to maintain its biodiversity value the land needs to be carefully managed.\u00a0 The scythe is a tool that is currently seeing a resurgence in Britain. Unlike the mower or strimmer, it produces no noise, vibration or smoke and is a pleasure to use. Plants can cut down hardy plants such as bramble, bracken, nettles and saplings as well as grasses and wild meadows.<\/p>\n

During the day you will learn:<\/p>\n

-How to set up the scythe for your body dimensions<\/p>\n

-Selecting the right blade for the job<\/p>\n

-Altering the angle of the blade<\/p>\n

-How to sharpen the blade<\/p>\n

-How to mow with ease & flow!<\/p>\n
