Menter Môn is holding a small COP conference at 1pm on Friday the 5th of November. The conference will focus on COP26 and the climate crisis. We would like to invite year 5 and 6 children to join us virtually by zoom for the conference. With an event as prestigious as the COP26 conference taking place in Scotland, Menter Môn recognizes the importance of bringing the event to the children of Anglesey.
This conference will contribute to the Science and Technology Area of Learning and Experience by teaching pupils about: the climate crisis, STEM careers and how design and engineering thinking like Morlais offers technical and creative ways to meet society’s needs and desires. Here is a list of the sessions that will be held as part of the conference:
- Welcome and introduction to the little COP
- Presentation on Morlais and video
- Pupils’ carbon footprint activity
- What is your carbon footprint? What activities do you do during the morning?
- A foot template will be shared with the schools in advance.
- An opportunity for the children to discuss and think about their activities and to identify them in the shape of a foot.
- Presentation by Nel Richards – a student reporting from the conference in Scotland.
- Correspondence activity – creating a title that would attract the attention of newspapers.
- Presentation by Ann Davies – Lighsource BP – Solar Energy
- Present a quick video of Carwyn and Carwen – Menter Môn electric cars Interactive activity – Pupils have a few minutes to think of a name for their school’s imaginary electric minibus.
- Activity – Kahoot Quiz The quiz will cover COP26, Climate Change and Menter Môn’s environmental activities There will be some quality prizes for the winners of the quiz.
- Summary and invite pupils to make ‘promise to planet’ A leaf shaped template will be shared in advance or the children can go out to collect real leaves! Following the conference, the children to think about and write their ‘promise to the planet’ in the leaves. We invite the schools to take photographs and / or film the green leaves and send it to Menter Môn to create a short film of Anglesey’s children’s promises to the planet.
