The Llwyddo’n Lleol 2050 project, led by Menter Môn, has announced an exciting opportunity for businesses and young people in Gwynedd and Ynys Môn to be part of their Elfen Gyrfaol (Careers Element).
This element offers young people aged 18-35 the opportunity to gain valuable work experience with local employers, whilst supporting businesses to develop the workforce and invest in local talent.
Through this opportunity, businesses will be able to offer flexible work placements to young people, with financial support and practical support from the Llwyddo’n Lleol team. Participants will also benefit from a range of development activities, including skills sessions and networking opportunities, to ensure a complete and valuable experience.
As well as the work experience itself, participants will have access to a wider package of support, including workshops to develop skills and confidence, and social activities to build connections and network locally.
The new element aims to show that young people can build successful careers in their native areas, whilst supporting businesses to grow and thrive by retaining talent locally.
This element contributes to local partners’ priorities to strengthen opportunities for young people, raise awareness of local careers and support the aim of retaining talent in Ynys Môn and Gwynedd.
Betsan Siencyn, Llwyddo’n Lleol Project Manager said:
“We are delighted to launch the Elfen Gyrfaol, which is an important step forward in supporting young people to secure a future for themselves in their local areas.
“This opportunity is more than a work placement- it’s about developing confidence, skills and connections, whilst giving businesses the support they need to invest in a new generation of talented workers.”
The opportunity was presented informally for the first time during Eisteddfod yr Urdd, with information available on Menter Môn’s stand and an opportunity to hear more through a panel discussion.
Steering the discussion, Buddug Watcyn Roberts, Freelance Creative Practitioner highlighted:
“I joined the Elfen Gyrfaol a few years ago, and I received very valuable support through the experience, from links with local employers to guidance, CV development and financial support. That was key in helping me develop a thriving career on my doorstep.”
Businesses and individuals who are interested in finding out more are encouraged to read the guidelines, contact the team to discuss possibilities before submitting their application by the 6th of July.

Llwyddo’n Lleol 2050 is a project led by Menter Môn, with the aim of supporting young people to build a strong life, career and social network in their local communities.
With challenges such as the emigration of young people affecting Welsh speaking communities, the project aims to show that a bright future and a successful career can be achieved locally.
In Gwynedd, this work supports the priorities of Cyngor Gwynedd’s Nôl i Wynedd strategy, and on Ynys Môn it aligns with the priorities of the Council’s Plan 2023 to 2028 and initiatives such as Dyfodol Môn, which promotes opportunities for people to live, work and develop careers locally.
The project is funded by Nuclear Restoration Services (NRS) on behalf of the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA) and is supported by Cyngor Sir Ynys Môn, Cyngor Gwynedd and the ARFOR Programme which is looking to use enterprise and economic development to support the strongholds of the Welsh language, thereby sustaining the language.
