The new Larder Cymru Best Practice report highlights how innovative approaches to school food are helping to increase the use of Welsh produce in secondary schools across Wales. Through the Larder Cymru Fresh Produce Street Food Trial, local authorities, schools, catering teams and suppliers worked together to create healthier, more appealing food offers that reflect the tastes and preferences of young people, while supporting local producers and sustainable supply chains.
The report showcases examples from Gwynedd, Torfaen, the Vale of Glamorgan, Caerphilly and Rhondda Cynon Taf, demonstrating how street food-inspired menus, pupil engagement and strong branding can transform the school dining experience. It also shares key lessons from the trial and highlights the positive impact Welsh food can have on learner wellbeing, local economies and the wider food system.
