Gŵyl Cefni has been held for a quarter of a century. It started in the year 2000 in Llangefni as part of the activities of Menter Iaith Môn within Menter Môn.

This year’s event was the largest yet, and after all the organising has come to an end for the 2025 festival – the Gŵyl Cefni committee, which is currently being coordinated by Menter Môn, has come to a difficult but necessary decision not to hold Gŵyl Cefni in 2026.

Since our first festival, Gŵyl Cefni has grown beyond our expectations in terms of size and popularity and has grown extremely quickly over recent years. Although the growth is a source of pride and a tremendous boost to the town during the week of the festival, it also places significantly greater pressure and responsibilities on our team of dedicated volunteers.

After careful consideration, at a meeting on 23 September, the committee voted to take 2026 as a year to develop.

We want to assure you that this isn’t the end of Gŵyl Cefni . During the next year we will be:

  • Looking for more committee members and volunteers
  • Looking for additional ways to fund this Welsh festival
  • Organising community activities

The committee will meet regularly throughout 2026 to work together to develop the new vision. We will also, of course, start planning for the Gŵyl Cefni 2027. We are also calling on individuals who are interested to join us again to plan for 2027.

Elen Hughes, Projects Director at Menter Môn said:

“We would like to thank everyone who has supported Gŵyl Cefni over the years including our volunteers, sponsors, local businesses, performers, stall holders, visitors, and most importantly, all the people who have been coming to enjoy and celebrate Welsh culture and music.

“We are so proud of the success of the festival. Over the years, it has grown attracting thousands of attendees over a two-day celebration of Welsh music  in the town of Llangefni.

“We look forward to returning in 2027 with new energy, ensuring that Gŵyl Cefni continues to celebrate the vibrant culture of our community for years to come.”

We consider next year as an opportunity to work more closely with businesses and the local community to ensure that our community can make the most of the economic benefits of the festival in 2027 and beyond.

We are also very much looking forward to hosting the Urdd Eisteddfod in 2026 and we understand that our volunteers and communities give a lot of energy and their time to that.
