The environment team’s work with the water vole has made significant progress in protecting our natural habitats and native species this year. These efforts reflect partnership work, volunteer dedication, and community collaboration.
This year’s main achievements:
- 75 minks culled: This step is essential to reduce the threat to native species such as water voles.
- 38 water vole surveys: These surveys provide vital data on the status and well-being of the population.
- 136 Active Rafts: These are effective monitoring tools that help to quickly detect the presence of mink.
- 18 engagement events organized or attended: These events strengthen community links and raise awareness.
- 900 hours of volunteers: This incredible contribution shows the dedication of local people to conservation.
These efforts are part of a wider effort to ensure the future of native species such as the water vole, our fastest declining mammal in the UK.
